Game Design

Dreamworld

Description

Dreamworld is a sandbox MMORPG that’s designed to empower users to play in the playstyles they prefer while allowing them to explore a massive procedural-generated world. During my time on the project, I worked as a junior developer implementing new gameplay features to get the game ready for its early access release. My focus was on ways to improve players’ experience while exploring by implementing new forms of movement such as climbing and developing dynamic assets for use in players building projects. Through this and my work improving the tutorial for new players, I helped the game see a 15% conversion rate during our early access.

What is it?

Metroid: The board game is a 2 vs 2 asymmetrical board game based on the digital game Metroid. In the game two teams are tasked with exploring an alien planet to accomplish their goals.  A team of Bounty Hunters (represented by the orange and black helmet tokens) have to navigate the maze-like planet and defeat all the bosses to be successful. The other team of Metroids (represented by the two green tokens) are trying to sabotage and eliminate the Bounty Hunter team by placing traps, powering up bosses, and fighting directly.

Two Side of the Space Cannon

During the game, players can find usable items and weapons that have unique uses. The Bounty Hunter players can use items and weapons in battle to deal out additional damage or heal up after a fight. The Metroid Players can deliver items to the bosses to power them up or give them weapons to remove usable resources from the Bounty Hunter team.

A Space Battle on Two Fronts

At the start of the game the two teams start separated so the game eases the players into conflict. This allows players to gather items or set traps and be prepared to fight. The game is designed to ramp up and become more action packed as players progress.
